Bert Jansch :: The Black Swan

News of Bert Jansch releasing a new album came at me from left field; and I about fell the fuck over when I heard one of my favorite labels, Drag City, was responsible for it’s release. This guy is, and has been, an incomparable British folk artist and acoustic warlock for years. I only learned of him after nearly wearing out, fellow Brit folker, Nick Drake’s catalog. Glad I did, as the gent, while not as well known as his late contemporary, has an equally impressive back catalog.

For those into folk, Black Swan is well worth your time with some interesting guests adding their vocal chops to Jansch’s playing — my personal favorite: Beth Orton.

Also: Below you will find Jansch’s “Black Water Side”; if it sounds familiar it’s because it is. Much like the case of Jake Holmes, Jimmy Page failed to credit Jansch on the liner notes to Led Zeppelin’s debut. Read what Jansch has to say about it here. The Black Swan drops October 18, 2006.
