We’re heading to New Orleans for the weekend to hit up the Voodoo Experience for the second year in a row. Last year we stayed at the Tchoup House that is (literally) right next door to Tipitinas which made for easy access to late-night shows and general NOLA revelry. Highly recommended during your next visit to the city.

Lots of artists to catch this year, with national touring favorites include: TV On The Radio, Devotchka, Cold War Kids, R.E.M., Erykah Badu, Man Man and the always excellent Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

While Voodoo obviously has a different vibe, and atmosphere, than Jazzfest it is still heavy on New Orleans music and culture, and attendees would be remiss to not spend a little time checking out some of the town’s indigenous music as there is nothing else like it. Last year I had to split my time between Wilco and Dr. John as they were billed for the same time slot of different stages; painful to only see half a show of each, but duty called.

Look for NOLA/Voodoo-centric posts through the weekend including this week’s SIRIUS show. The dates and the lineup are listed after the jump. Holler is the comments if you’re going this year.

  2. you better go see lil wayne.

  3. As a former NOLA resident, I strongly recommend the Morning 40 Federation. Boozy rawk-n-roll. Awesome stuff.

  4. ^^^^ YES!!! morning 40 federation is great. also check out New Orleans Bingo Show!

so yeah, how about some free tickets?

  5. Morning 40 and NOBS! are both awesome picks. I’d recommend checking out The City Life Sunday at 11.

  6. if you want to take a breather, irvin mayfield and the new orleans jazz orchestra is a gorgeous throwback to the duke ellington big band days…with a little more than a hint of new orleans soul.

  7. oh, and check out the butthole surfers…demonic stuff last night in dallas.

  8. A little bit skeptical at first, but the video makes the song a lot better. definitely should get more radio play tho.
