High five to Don Giovanni Records (on a winning streak this year with new releases from the likes of Swamp Dogg and Lavender Country) for digging up the mid-’90s cosmic country records of Cherokee Rose. Growing up in Minneapolis, the now Santa Fe-residing Rose Moore had occasion to bring her raw, diaristic songs to Paisley Park Studio, resulting in 1993’s Buckskin and 1995’s To All the Wild Horses. The two albums, reissued earlier this month, dazzle in the way they transcend their unadorned, folk origins—Moore having never bothered to learn more than a few basic chords on guitar, but carrying all the music she needs in her heart.
