M. Ward’s May 6, 2004 visit with KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic host Nic Harcourt. I was lucky enough to see Ward open up for My Morning Jacket later that weekend, at the Avalon in Hollywood, performing most of the songs below. The cover of Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” was the highlight of his opening set, in which he injects a longing sadness into Bowie’s ’80s paean to lust.
