Next to the Jonathan Demme’s Live documentary Stop Making Sense, Speaking In Tongues may be my personal favorite “proper” Heads album. While the excellent Remain In Light is their most fully realized work, Speaking In Tongues walks the thin line between the band’s art house sensibilities and the more mainstream pop sound they would embrace following Stop Making Sense. So, although it is hard to pick your favorite child, as I love every facet of the band’s career, this album contains This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody), which resides in my list of all-time favorite songs.

This reissue is a dual-disc with a DVD on the flipside featuring videos from the singles. The CD side contains two alternate/unfinished tracks from the Speaking In Tongues sessions, hardly essential but interesting nonetheless. The 5.1 surround sound is what you’re really paying for here.
