As Songs:Illinois mentioned recently, Songs For Sixty Five Roses is a benefit for children with Cystic Fibrosis. When I received the foundation’s letter and album last week, I was happy to assist — but would fully endorse this album on it’s artistic merits alone, even if not a charity production.
A who’s-who in the NC independent music scene, Sixty Five Roses is the brainchild of John Plymale, whose daughter Allie, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in 2004. A prominent fixture in the Research Triangle music scene ,as both a musician and producer, Plymale called upon his friends and enlisted them in this cause to raise money and awareness for children with CF. As a sample track, I chose Portastatic’s cover of NC native Ryan Adam’s “Oh, My Sweet Carolina.”
Who is on board: Chris Stamey, Caitlin Cary, Portastatic, Tift Merritt, Two Dollar Pistols, Will McFarlane, Southern Culture On The Skids, Athenaeum, and many more…
