Iggy Pop :: Revisiting The Idiot

The Idiot is the predecessor to Pop’s more well known and commercially beloved solo album, Lust For Life. In the mid-Seventies after a homeless stint on the streets of Los Angeles, a strung out Pop checked himself into the Neuropsychiatric Institute in L.A. After his hospitalization Pop joined David Bowie in Paris and then Berlin to record what would become his “comeback” album, The Idiot. A very stylized album under the production and guiding hand of Bowie, it’s dark tone and lyrics led the way for a new kind of rock ( listen to Joy Division’s work for an example.) The pair would re-team for the album’s follow-up, but soon after an undisclosed personal/professional rift developed between the two sadly ending future collaborations.
