Life During Wartime…

The live document The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads came on (randomly) this weekend while my laptop was connected to the stereo. CNN was on the television, on mute, and David Byrne’s lyrics to “Life During Wartime” washed over the screen as footage of the Iraq war played out, silently, on CNN.

The syncronicty was both poetic and a grotesque reminder of where America, by the hands of the current administration, is at geo-politically since 2003. This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no foolin’ around.

  1. oh man i love it when synchronicity is in effect. at the risk of sounding lame-o, life is a music video!

Name of this band is…… first LP (or rather 2xLP) i purchased, and prob’ly one of the better purchases i made

  2. This is my favourite live album by a mile.

My uncle had it on vinyl and taped it for me and i played it all the time during my first year of university. Great memories. Because It was never reissued on CD until a couple of years ago I bought the earlier albums so I had copies of the songs, but they never lived up to these live versions.

The best talking Heads album IMHO.
