Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy & Captain Anomoanon :: 2006

bonnie-nyc-pub.jpg

As Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy prepared to embark on what would become a very busy fall of 2006, he played two very special nights at Joe’s Pub in New York City. With brothers Paul and Ned Oldham (Will Oldham/BPB/Palace Music), the trio blistered through nearly 40 covers, nearly all traditionals – playing only one original (“Cursed Sleep” in its pre-release form). Below are three of those shows (all but the first night’s late show). Enjoy, and hat tip to the original taper.

  1. Kallen’s right. I saw them play much the same show in Baltimore back in 2006 — the Creative Alliance. His mom was in the audience. It was a really great night of music. Thanks so much for this. I’ve been wondering what some of those songs were that night for a long time.

  2. Does anyone know where to find the original version of that Dr. Hook song? It doesn’t appear to be on any of their albums.

  3. after a long, involved upload into my itunes, i finally listened to to all three shows. they are fantastic. i look forward to future listenings and thank you for posting.

in response to stephen, looks like you can purchase dr. hook’s ‘cops and robbers’ single here. it should be noted [and is, in the recording], that the song was actually written by shel silverstein.

  4. ah man. thank you so much for posting these songs.

i love aquarium drunkard. it’s a mainstay here in this head & home. thank you for spreading the love, the songs.
