Uh huh, it’s gonna be that kind of party: Staple Stingers ’85 rundown of Talking Heads’ “Slippery People” — the club mix. While Pops is obviously the man here – his vocals leading the call and response – it’s Mavis, particularly her scat at 4:59 that will likely leave you reaching for the rewind. The Talking Heads connection would continue a couple of years later as Pops Staples would soon turn up in David Byrne’s True Stories doing an especially hoodoo rendition of “Papa Legba“.

Hot Damn! Those Staples just did it all. Pops’ voice is so bad ass. His “how do you know” is almost better than his “slow down ms. moses”.
POPS Style
I had never heard this until a few weeks ago, it was pumping in a Chipotle where I was grabbing dinner. I Shazam’d it and have been on the hunt to find an original 12″.
