Future Museums :: Heavenish

This week saw the first ever image of a black hole, where all matter and essence submerge into the unknown. Future Museums, the musical vehicle of Austin’s Neil Lord, understands and grasps the gravity of this, for it too lives in a place where time and space become vastly amorphous. Heavenish, released last month on Aural Canyon, was recorded deep in the hills of Tarpley, Texas, and, not unlike its title, it relishes in something close to nirvana. Spread out across four sprawling instrumentals, Lord and his band merge dusty desert ramblings with ambient soundscapes. A sonic galaxy of guitars, synths, vocal samples, and drum machines, the music is unafraid to venture out, and welcoming enough for us to follow its mysterious path. words / c depasquale
