We love us some Wayne Horvitz around here, especially his late ’80s-early ’90s output with his avant garde jazz outfit, The President. Next week, he’ll open the archives with Live Forever, Vol. 1: The President: New York in the 80’s, a compilation of live tracks, demos, and studio outtakes.
Check out the first taste here, a live CBGBs performance of “This New Generation,” from 1987. Originally released on the 1986 album, Dinner at Eight, the studio version sounds downright tame compared to this Lower East Side take. the hushed fusion of guitars, synths, and saxes morphing into a fiery howl, electrifying downtown into the night. | c depasquale
