Monde UFO :: Lying On The Ground

Following July’s drop of “Lowered Shelf,” Monde UFO—the LA-based duo of Ray Monde and Kris Chau—return this month with “Lying on the Ground,” the next taste off their forthcoming debut, 7171, which sees release on Halloween via Monde’s own label, Universal Freeing Object.

The new track doubles down our anticipation of this record. In it, the group’s trademark bossa nova beat meets gothic synths, bolstered by additional percussion by Evan Tetreault. As Ray Monde says, “The music seems to turn coherently into a drive thru Liquor Store, with a final stop of an evicted house show.”

The accompanying visual, directed by Monde and Cook Lee-Chobanian, definitely lives in that universe—its grainy surrealist neo-noir capturing LA from dusk till dawn. Mark your calendars, folks, this one’s sure to be both a trick and a treat. | c depasquale
