Moonage Daydream: Life & Times of Ziggy Stardust

Last week I missed Of Montreal’s return trip to Los Angeles, as I had to unexpectedly leave town. I was especially looking forward to Kevin Barnes vamping on ziggy-era Bowie. It goes a little something like this…

Related: Speaking of, have you read 2005’s Moonage Daydream: The Life & Times of Ziggy Stardust, peened by David Bowie and Mick Rock?

  1. i caught of montreal 2 weeks ago in dallas.

i love music. honestly i rarely if ever am DISAPPOINTED by a show. they just sucked. i was shocked.

the sound was horrible (the venue has great sound and i was right by the board, so i know he was hearing what i was hearing). there was no hint of the poppy greatness on their albums. it was a poor man’s sonic youth fuzz attack that just wasn’t good.

even songs i like like Oslo In the SUmmertime just lost all of their energy on stage. and while there was a drum kit on stage, no one sat at it for 75% of the show. the songs moved (barely) to really murky sludgy beats.

the stage set up was 2 story, kind of cool, except that no one could stand still. they kept walking up and down for no apparent reason…they were more intersted in walking up and down the stairs to the 2nd level than playing their instruments.

and they played for about an hour with a one song encore.

i’ve seen them live before and it was great. no clue what was going on.

  2. I must completely disagree with Jon from Dallas. I saw Of Montreal last night at the Variety Playhouse and they brought the noise. They also played a 4 song encore though, not just 1…
