Jana Horn :: The Aquarium Drunkard Interview

Over the last few years, and now three records, Jana Horn has quietly asserted herself as a songwriter of great merit amongst a vast and seemingly bottomless sea of artists also in search of answers through song. Her most recent LP, a self-titled work written during a period of transition in her life—notably a relocation to New York City having graduated from a writing program in the University of Virginia—captures movement not just in the physical sense of moving from one physical place to another, but of progressing the flow of her interior life.

Transmissions :: Jana Horn

This week on Transmissions, we’re joined by writer and musician Jana Horn. Her new album The Window is the Dream is out now on No Quarter Records. Writing about it, Andy French at Raven Sings The Blues calls it, a “delicate exfoliation of dream and reality.” When she’s not penning oracular folk rock songs, Horn teaches fiction at the University of Virginia and writes short fiction. She joins us to discuss it all.

Jana Horn :: Optimism

Jana Horn’s masterful Optimism was self-released in minimal quantities in 2020, but the ever reliable No Quarter Records is giving it a well-deserved re-press in January. It’s a gem-like collection that hangs together wonderfully, thanks not only to the songwriter’s quietly luminous presence, but also the subtle and sensitive arrangements that her band provides.
