Twenty years ago, the Philadelphia band Marah were riding a tidal wave of acclaim for their ragged-but-right rootsy rock and roll as they entered the studio to make their third album. They came out with Float Away With the Friday Night Gods, a confounding and unabashedly ambitious swing for the arena rock fences.
