With his new EP Roseway, Jeffrey Silverstein continues his journeyman drift, wedding country ballads to funk boogies and laser-guided motorik drive to languid, swamp-ready guitars. With his Telecaster Deluxe strapped on, Silverstein cut the recordings with his band. The music picks up where his last full-length, Western Sky Music, left off. We caught up with Silverstein to discuss how it came together. Our conversation, edited for clarity and cohesion, is presented here.

The Lagniappe Sessions :: Jeffrey Silverstein
Songwriter Jeffrey Silverstein joins the Lagniappe Sessions with inspired country funk covers of tunes by Chip Taylor, Steely Dan (via Waylon Jennings), Jim Ford, and Tom T. Hall’s immortal “That’s How I Got To Memphis.”
Jeffrey Silverstein :: Theme Western Sky Music
Western skies extend uninterrupted in every direction, and so, too, does Jeffrey Silverstein’s spaghetti western psychedelia. Here, in ruminative speech-song and drifting instrumentals, the Portland’s space cowboy explores the cosmos with Rose City twang-maestro Barry Walker Jr. on pedal steel, Akron Family’s Dana Buoy on drums and Alex Chapman on electric bass.
Jeffrey Silverstein :: Cowboy Grass
Emerging from a billowing cloud of smoke, a bramble of electric guitars growing from the soil beneath him: behold “Cowboy Grass,” a new jammer from Jeffrey Silverstein. The first single from the forthcoming Western Sky Music, it adds a healthy dose of swagger to the familiar brew of JJ Cale-styled boogie, loner folk ambiance, and Silverstein’s Berman-esque wordplay.
Jeffrey Silverstein :: Transmissions
Musician and writer Jeffrey Silverstein. His new EP of gently cosmic guitar music is called Torii Gates, and he’s the head behind the wonderful It’s So Easy (When You Know What You’re Doing), a tribute to the late cult folk musician Ted Lucas, featuring AD favorites like John Andrews & the Yawns, Julianna Barwick and William Tyler, Barry Walker Jr., Amelia Courthouse, and more. He’s also a teacher and a runner. We get into it all on this special bonus episode of Transmissions.
