Few father/son combos could create an album as gloriously warped as It’s Just Wind. During his yearly residency at the Marfa Myths festival, New Zealand psych-pop surrealist Connan Mockasin welcomed his 72-year-old dad Ade Hosford to join a series of jam sessions.

8 musicians, 16 surfers, and tucked-away surf breaks in Mexico, the Maldives and Iceland are on full display, as the viewer is taken on a journey that showcases the seamless relationship between wave and sound. As the opening credits state, the surfing was done in real time… the music was created in response.

Over the past decade the Kiwi artist (née Connan Tant Hosford) has called California, England, and, at present, Japan home. One thing that hasn’t changed? Hosford’s singular fealty to a sound that can only be described as his own. There have been numerous imitators since, yet Mockasin’s homegrown surrealist psychedelia, and exploration thereof, has remained both constant and in flux.
