Vic Chesnutt :: North Star Deserter

On a different level, Vic Chesnutt's musical collaborators and co-conspirators, over the past 15 years, are almost as interesting and varied as the southern Gothic bard's lyrical imagery itself. Always one for experimentation, the artist has collaborated with, among others: Van Dyke Parks, Lambchop, Michael Stipe, Will Johnson, Widespread Panic, and Bill Frisell. I could easily go on.

Here, on North Star Deserter, his fourteenth album, Chesnutt . . .

Wes Anderson :: A Soundtrack Enthusiast

How many times, so far, have you watched Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited trailer? I think here at the A.D. home offices we are up to around, oh, ten, give or take a few.

Back in 2005 Wes Anderson was the first filmmaker profiled in our (presently on hiatus) series A Soundtrack Enthusiast. For those of you who were not reading back then, we've dusted this one off, and updated it with The Kinks track "This Time Tomorrow"

The Yardbirds – Stroll On (From Blow Up – 1966)

Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni's film Blow Up, from 1966, left a lasting impression on me. Its depiction of mod-cool, sixties London, is aesthetically on point throughout its entirety -- and that's not even taking in consideration the actual (murder mystery) plot, which itself is both meandering (in the style of sixties art-house) and engrossing.

Zach Galifianakis & Will Oldham :: Video

Zach Galifianakis & Will Oldham's video of Kanye's "Can't Tell Me Nothing" looks like it could be the bastard child of Oldham's "Cursed Sleep" video from 2006. Let's get weird. (via: Culture Bully

Pink Floyd :: Live @ Pompeii 1971 (Echoes)

History (via Wiki): Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii is a 1972 Adrian Maben film featuring Pink Floyd performing six songs at the ruins of the empty ancient amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy.

James Brown :: The Funky Drummer (sampled)

"Fellas, one more time I wanna give the drummer some of this funky soul we got here. You don't have to do no soloing, brother, just keep what you got. Don't turn it loose, because "it's a mother." - James Brown (Funky Drummer)
