If I Could Only Remember My Name….

Crosby in 1970. This was his finest hour -- his first solo album. Contributing guests include: Jerry Garcia, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Phil Lesh, Graham Nash, etc etc. If you too enjoy this album, drop me a comment. I think it's fantastic....loose, creative...embodies the early '70s in California perfectly.DOWNLOAD:MP3:

James Booker :: Montreux Bootleg 1978

I uploaded this rare 1978 bootleg recording from the Montreux Jazz Festival for a friend yesterday...thought you all may be interested as well. I have several live albums from this New Orleans piano master, and this is by far the best. Booker plays along with a loose pick-up band backing him. Spiders on keys, indeed. Album is zipped in a WinRar file...follow link below. DOWNLOAD:MP3: become a member or log in.

The Bright Black Morning Light

Brightblack is made up of longtime friends and musical partners Naybob and Raybob -- two Alabama ex-pats now living in the woods of Humboldt County, CA. The duo's indie-americana-folk stylings were taken notice by Will Oldham ,who subsequently recorded two split/EPs, and has toured with brightblack on four occasions. Expect brightblack's first Matador

HAM1 :: Via Athens, GA

As a former Athens resident I try (from the west coast) to keep to keep up with the pulse of the local scene and support new artists. HAM1 is no exception. Under his stage name, local schoolteacher Jim Willingham has recently self-released his first album, but he would rather you have it for free. A novel idea, no? Backed by a crew of esteemed townie musicians (members of OTC, Ballard Lesseman, etc . . .

The Kinks are, for the most part, terribly under-appreciated; but not on this site mind you. Here are a couple of bonus tracks off the Arthur re-issue. Listen to them loud.DOWNLOAD:MP3 . . .

Sweet Los Angeles In The Fall…

It's Sunday, a little overcast...a little wet outside. And I'm fully enjoying it. A nice reprieve from the constant L.A. heat of late. Here's a tune that was playing around the house this morning. Dusty tends to cool everything off.DOWNLOAD:MP3: Dusty Springfield - Don't Forget About Me

Bob Dylan :: Live At The Gaslight 1962

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine, who works in media, was good enough to score me the Starbucks exclusive Bob Dylan Live at the Gaslight 1962 album. In simple terms, it is great. If you have had some hesitation, as I initially did, check out these two sample tracks below. A great companion piece to the recent Scorcese documentary.

Stop Sniffin’ That Smokin’ Gun :: Neil Young

The following is a guest post by Neil Young enthusiast Thrasher, of Thrasher's Blog, in which he explores a tune from Young's critically and commercially ignored '80s decade. --------------------------------------------Neil Young has always had the touch with a clever turn of a phrase.When Satisfied '75 asked me to do a guest post on obscure 1980's Neil Young tunes here on An Aquarium Drunkard, it really was an opportunity . . .

Great Lake Swimmers…Oh, Canada

Canada's music scene's been on steroids the past few years, as further exemplified by the sophmore release from Ontario's Great Lake Swimmers. Upon first listen, songwriter/vocalist Tony Dekker comes across as a hybrid of an early, pensive Neil Young and My Morning Jacket at their most subdued. Like My Morning Jacket, GLS use organic atmospherics to compliment their moody pallette. [The debut album was recorded in an . . .
