About four years ago I made a two disc alt.country-folk compilation, for friends, entitled "Downer Country." If I ever find a copy of it I might post it on the Drunkard for posterity.

Anyway, one one of the cornerstone tracks off the comp was Patty Griffin's sparse, haunting cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Stolen Car." If at all curious, don't hesitate to check this out. It's the essence of an excellent . . .

Now that the ink on the contract is dry, I want to announce the news that Aquarium Drunkard is teaming up with Sirius satellite radio.

Beginning mid-April, Friday evenings, Sirius subscribers will be able to listen to my new two hour show on channel 26, Left of Center.

It's no secret I have an interest in the late sixties, early seventies Laurel Canyon/L.A. music scene; even today, living in Los Angeles, you occasionally catch a glimpse of its past, be it an aging bungalow, a street, or the hills themselves.

Being long before my time, in an effort to get closer to the tunes themselves, I have consumed a number of books, biographies and random accounts of the era, as the contrasting shades of light and dark in the music, an obvious reflection of the times, fascinate me.

Last week in Austin I was often asked what I've been listening to lately. My reply was/is: this excellent, yet shitty sounding, bootleg compilation of vinyl rips of 1960s French Freakbeat tracks I happened upon about a year ago.

Unfortunately, that is about the extent of my knowledge of the recordings as little information was to be found scouring the net. Although, I did like become a member or log in.

I spent last night taking the alternate cut of D.A. Pennebaker's career defining Dylan documentary Don't Look Back, which is included in the - just released - Don't Look Back deluxe DVD package. Entitled '65 Revisited, the film is made up of outtakes from the 1965 tour through England . . .

Longtime Drunkard favorite Page France will be releasing an album via Suicide Squeeze on May 8th, and (you guessed it) fresh from a string of dates at SXSW, are now making their way up the West coast.

So. Pardon my french, but White Denim proved to be the shit at this years SXSW. The were definitely one of the more talked up acts on everyone's lips (along with bbq sauce) at night during dinner while comparing notes from the various day shows.
