Foamfoot :: Live @ The Troubadour (1-8-94)

If you consider yourself a serious Black Crowes fan you probably already own this. The first thing you should know about Foamfoot is that it is a cover band, a damn fine cover band at that, playing mostly Southern Rock and ’70s staples. Formed and fronted by Chris Robinson in Los Angeles in the mid-1990’s, Foamfoot did a one-off show at the Troubadour here in L.A . . .

The Lightning Bug Situation :: A Leaf: A Stream

The Lightning Bug Situation's new LP A Leaf: A Stream at times feels like a bedroom-indie, American interpretation of early '70s piano driven Pink Floyd, all gauzy and wrapped in some sort of cotton psychedelic headspace. Or, as one of their fans noted, in a parrelel universe it could have been the soundtrack to director Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 film become a member or log in.

Under The Covers :: I’d Rather Go Blind

More often than not, whenever I spin Man Man's cover of Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind," someone, whether in the studio, or a listener via email, invariably inquires one of two things: a) the source of the cover, or b) who the band is covering Etta James. I think this phenomenon, like all great covers, speaks to both the quality of the song itself, as well as Man Man's barroom interpretation.

The National :: The Black Sessions (Paris, 2005)

I originally found these tracks on Muzzle of Bees in 2005, listened to them incessantly, and then promptly misplaced them...until now. Consider the following required listening for National fans with material taken from the Cherry Tree . . .

Faces :: Five Guys Walk Into A Bar

I know, I know. It can be hard to forgive pop stars for their latter-career missteps; in this case, one mister Rod Stewart. After years, and years (and years) of E! True Hollywood Story segments, Behind The Musics, People magazine exposé's, and a seemingly endless string of notorious marriages/divorces to young blondes, Rod the mod is mostly seen, these days, as aging celebrity tabloid fodder. So yeah, when one squanders their talent/reputation like
