Cat Power :: Jukebox (Deluxe Silver Edition)

Cat Power will release her latest LP, Jukebox, next week, January 22nd. As previously reported, Jukebox again finds Chan Marshall culling an album's worth of material almost entirely comprised of covers -- all reinterpreted Cat Power style. Here is the tracklisting, for the . . .

Red House Painters :: Songs For A Blue Guitar

Muzzle of Bees recently tipped us off that Mark Kozelek's Sun Kil Moon are set to release their next LP, April 1st, via the artist's own caldo verde records. Appropriately entitled April, you can stream the first single "Moorestown," off the LP, here. This is welcome news, as

Retro TV Themes Revisited :: Hawaii Five-O

Lots of new features on ye olde Drunkard to keep an eye out for in 2008 - the first of which, Retro TV Themes Revisited, aims to mine our long-running collection of past television (aural) glories. Have at it in the comments.

Yeah, book 'em, Danno. As you can probably guess, this is but the first of two Hawaii-based, detective shows' theme songs that will grace AD's TV Themes Revisited feature. Hawaii Five-O, besides . . .

Kelley Stoltz :: Circular Sounds

We last heard from San Francisco's Kelley Stoltz on his under-noticed, 2006 LP, Below The Branches, and album that, if you missed, I would recommend re-visiting. If this first single is any indicator, Stoltz' upcoming LP Circular Sounds is set to receive similar positive accolades. Here's hoping more people recognize this go 'round. Album . . .

Dr. John :: Desitively Bonnaroo – 1974

Consider this is the first New Orleans related post leading up to Mardi Gras (as part of our annual month-long Fat Tuesday lead up series). This album is one of my favorites in the Dr. John oeuvre. Laissez les bons temps rouler.

I have but one ritual when I visit the Amoeba music on Sunset Blvd that I rarely ever forget to practice; nothing too hoodoo either, just a walk to the back of the . . .

Beck :: The Mutations Conversations

The following interview should be required listening for Beck fans, and those with even a passing interest in the production of making rekkids. A candid late-'90s interview, journalist Neil Strauss and Beck discuss the motivations behind Mutations, the recording process, as well as interesting predictions for Beck's . . .

…She Left His Amplifier

Last week I suggested to a friend that his band cover The dB's classic "Amplifier." For those unfamiliar, The dB's were a quintessential, if largely ignored, '80s power pop band from North Carolina who hung their hats in New York City. This is on one of their finest moments. Highly recommended if you're a fan of: Big Star, early R.E.M., '80s indie jangle rock.

Bobby Charles :: 1972 Self-Titled Long Player

Mr. Bobby Charles' 1972 self-titled release may be, at times, a chore to track down (import), [note: this is in reference to cd/vinyl) but such efforts are more than rewarded from the moment you press play. Like Link Wray's early seventies albums, Louisiana native Bobby Charles was making and recording music akin to the sounds The Band were exploring, up north, at the . . .
