Damien Jurado :: That I’m In Your Shadow

October 10th saw Secretly Candians's release of Damien Jurado's latest LP And Now That I'm In Your Shadow -- his seventh full length album. I *just* missed seeing Jurado with Rosie Thomas in Atlanta . . .

The Cassettes :: ‘Neath The Pale Moon

Brought to you by L.A.'s own Buddyhead Records is the latest LP from Washington D.C.'s The Cassettes. Self described as a "rock n' roll vaudeville western band" The Cassettes play there own brand of indie rock referred to as steam punk -- yeah, dig that. I'm new to these guys but fully on board after listening to this latest release the past few days . . .

SXSW 2006 :: Richard Hawley Interview

Live Daily has recently aired an interview I did for them with Richard Hawley at SXSW in Austin last March. A casual interview, Hawley and I discussed touring, music blogs, his influences, etc at a restaurant prior to his gig later that night. A real gentleman and a pleasure to interview.DOWNLOAD:MP3/Stream: SXSW 2006 :: Richard Hawley Interview

LUNA :: Tell Me Do You Miss Me

This 2006 documentary (surrounding the final year of LUNA's career as a working band) has come up several times in conversation within the past week. I figure that alone merits yet another LUNA post on the Drunkard.As a huge fan of the band's catalog it was both an interesting documentation of the inner-workings of the group, as well as a bit depressing and anti-climatic. become a member or log in.

Rolling Stones :: Cocksucker Blues EP

photo: Sticky Fingers' LP jacketThe kings of early '70s hedonism had a court order produced declaring this documentary could not be shown without the presence of it's director, Robert Franks. That did not stop the bootleg of the film from being widely dispersed on the black market. This is a truly naked, candid, often disturbing look at a band on tour wrapped up in drama and addiction. It's also fascinating. The film takes up where Albert Maysles documentary

Pussy Cats :: Revisited & Re-interpreted

The story of John Lennon's estrangement from Yoko Ono in 1974 has become the stuff of rock & roll lore. Holed up for months in L.A., Lennon's adventures have long been playfully referred to as his "lost weekend." Read: super-bender. During this stint to the golden coast, among drinking, drugging, corralling and other la la treats, Lennon produced Nilsson's album become a member or log in.

Official Release :: Tall & The Band Sessions

Closing in now on twenty years, The Black Crowes have stood their ground as the American blues-based rock & roll outfit working today. They are a throwback in the best way to the arena sized giants of the late sixties and seventies. Rock & Roll excess, drama, crooked music biz politics, sibling rivalry...money-makin'.

Last Spring I posted, as part of An Aquarium Drunkard's Lost Album Series, The Black Crowes unreleased albums

The Broken West

This is relatively old news in the uber-fast Internet era, but I did want to mention that due to legal issues L.A.'s The Brokedown have been forced to change their name. That's the bad news. But, the good news is that we like their new name even better: The Broken West. As reported earlier, the band signed to Merge at . . .

Travel By Sea :: New Song

I stumble upon some of my favorite music finds by accident. A conversation, a late night podcast, an obscure music rag, etc., etc. In this case it was, as happens regularly, by the recommendation of a friend. I know very little about Travel By Sea other than they are an indie-folk songwriting duo that have never met. One of them lives in Colorado -- the other in California. Their compositions are carefully put together piecemeal via the Internet. They have one full length album out which I have yet to hear, but based . . .

The Evens :: Upcoming Album, Etc.

And we're....back. I've been away from a computer for awhile, so while playing catch up earlier today I read the Pitchfork piece on news of The Evens upcoming album entitled The Evens Get Evens, out November 6th. Being that the outfit's debut was (and continues to be) one of my favorite jams of 2005, this is welcome news. In the meantime, check . . .

Daniel Hutchens :: Lovesongs For Losers

Daniel Hutchens' Lovesongs For Losers drops today at Autumn Tone -- it's our first proper release. When Hutchens and I first began batting around the idea of working together on his next project, the initial idea was to knock out another acoustic-based "singer-songwriter" driven recording in the vein of his solo debut, 2003's LESSER. What came out of . . .

Daniel Hutchens :: Autumn Tone Preview

October 1oth sees the release of my Autumn Tone label's first release -- Daniel Hutchens second solo album recorded at Dave Barbe's Athens, GA studio this past Spring. You'll here more about that next week though.

Right now I want to turn you on to a demoed outtake from the pre-sessions in Denver that did not make the final album. This . . .

My Morning Jacket :: KVRX 2000

Note: My file host has cracked down on Zip files - therefore I am re-posting this essential MMJ KVRX show.----I would not have this recording if it wasn't for the kind folks at Audio For Drinking, so huge thanks to those guys. For those of you who (like me) prefer the days when MMJ still had more of that high lonesome, rural . . .

Robert Pollard :: Normal Happiness

Well shit, Bob Pollard's back...again?!!? Where does the lore of a band stop and the music begin? Or are they one and the same? After a period of time I would have to say that, yes, they are indeed one in the same. They become intertwined and inseparable from one another.The former elementary school teacher from Dayton, OH may have put an end to the Guided By Voices moniker . . .
